Your role:


We’re in business to save our home planet. Your role will contribute to this purpose by supporting the Accounting Team with the consistent recording of financial data into the relevant systems in accordance with accounting principles and internal procedures.


You are an experienced Senior Accountant to work closely with the different functions across the accounting team to ensure the General Ledger is accurate and compliant for tax and statutory purposes across Europe. You will play a key role in driving the cross-departmental and internal accounting projects forward and contribute to a strong knowledge-sharing platform for the team.



Main tasks:


Be the first point of contact for Ecommerce Accounting Operations and be the Accounting business partner to the Ecommerce team:

  • Oversee day-to-day Ecommerce Accounting operations and support recurring ecommerce tasks.

  • Ensure accounting reconciliations for the Ecommerce channel are performed within set deadlines including sales to pay-out, settlement reconciliation, invoice and AR reconciliation.

  • Lead weekly & monthly cross-department E-com/Accounting meetings and act as point of contact for Ecommerce Accounting projects.

  • Oversee accounting processes and controls all transactions sitting outside the automated flows (e.g. chargebacks and manual credit notes).

  • Utilize analytical skills to identify potential issues, dig in to understand root causes and follow through to resolution.

  • Closely work with our Ecommerce & Finance Business Analysts to further automate these processes.

Responsible for EMEA Treasury Accounting:

  • Together with Finance manager lead the monthly Cash Flow Forecasting process.

  • Accounting of derivative contracts (Patagonia’s hedging program).

  • Coordinate EMEA treasury Accounting with our global treasurer.


  • Oversee the payment operations performed by the AP team by ensuring adherence to relevant internal controls by the AP team through periodic inspection and sign off on AP and Payment reconciliations & supporting documentation.

  • Preparation and oversight of the Month-End and Year-End accounting close activities with timely & accurate preparation of journal entries and GL account reconciliations (e.g. Bad Debt, Cash in transit).

  • Lead process improvements on Treasury & Payments accounting tasks and assist with ongoing projects & testing.

  • Manage the internal and external audit process for the accounting team and prepare Financial Statements together with the Accounting Manager.

  • Liaise with multiple stakeholders including but not limited to external auditors, US & EMEA finance team and other business partners.

  • Filing, scanning, storing, and retrieving of all related financial documents in accordance with local rules, regulations and company policies.

  • Adhere to accounting principles and internal procedures.

Other tasks

  • Ad hoc administrative duties to be performed as and when required, including cover for other members of finance.


What we’re looking for:

  • (Part) Qualified accountant or interest in pursuing further accounting education.

  • Senior Accountant with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience.

  • Strong supervisory skills and acting as a source of best practice for junior accounting colleagues.

  • Ability to coach, mentor and train others.

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build effective cross-functional relationships.

  • Advanced Excel proficiency and ability to execute complex data reconciliation on large data sets.

  • Understanding of functional accounting processes and ERP Systems with in-depth experience as a key user (preferably Microsoft D365).

  • Tech-savvy with proven ability using technology to automate recurring accounting tasks and analyze & reconcile data (PowerBi, TM1, Blackline are a plus).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead process improvements and efficiency initiatives through automations, workflow management, reporting and collaboration with other departments.

  • Demonstrated ability in improving internal control environment by developing policies, maintaining adequate documentation.

  • Flexibility, proactivity, self-motivated, adaptable and hands on.

  • Keen attention to details, analytical mindset and proven problem-solving skills.

  • Fluency in English, other languages are a plus.

  • This is a full time position, based in Amsterdam.

  • We have a hybrid work model, working from home for maximum 3 days per week
