Your role:

We’re in business to save our home planet. Your role will contribute to this purpose by ensuring the retail stores are in alignment with Patagonia’s Mission and Core Values and they serve as activation centers for the brand and community. The District Manager is the first point of contact for the Retail stores and has total financial and operational oversight with the expectation that they will meet or exceed all goals.


Main tasks:

Financial and Operational performance

  • Monitor and oversee the Financial and Operational performance of all stores in the district.

  • Create performance development plans annually for each store of oversight to ensure stores stay within their operating budgets, meet or exceed their sales goals, and achieve desired KPIs. Follow up consistently to ensure accountability to plans.

  • Proactively analyze, report, and forecast on the financial performance of the business and offer stopgap solutions to reversing negative business trends.

Leadership

  • Current responsibility over 6 stores across Northen Europe with 6 direct reports, leading a community of circa 80 retail employees.

  • Lead and enable Store Managers and their teams to perform at their best. Set clear expectations and be a coach to help deliver on their targets and priorities through regular contact and engagement.

  • Provide the necessary tools and resources to drive improvements and support change management where needed.

  • Drive best practice sharing across the stores, respecting the uniqueness of every store and community whilst also promoting the value of consistency in processes and experience.

  • Cultivate an environment of open, authentic dialog with store teams and office partners.

The Customer Experience

  • Spend time on the floor in all stores, assisting customers and leading by example.

  • Work with Store Managers to create and support a selling culture where customer engagement is high and a positive experience is the primary focus.

People & Culture, Development and Training

  • Hire and mentor top talent; provide regular coaching and feedback to develop Store Managers to their fullest potential.

  • Work with Store Managers to identify and develop an internal candidate pool for future growth opportunities. Work on succession planning.

  • Ensure all store employees are adhering to People & Culture and Company policies and procedures and in legal compliance of all local labor laws.

  • In partnership with People & Culture and the wider Retail team, facilitate implementation of company training programs. Support the roll out of the Learning & Development platform across the stores and co-create and maintain content relevant for the retail teams.

  • Organize the seasonal Retail managers Meeting and the annual Assistant Store manager Day.

Merchandising and Marketing

  • Review performance of respective stores’ assortment, visual merchandising standards, capacity and layout, and discuss current and future opportunities to drive the respective store’s business.

  • In partnership with the Retail Marketing Lead and Environmental Coordinators, develop and implement community engagement programs for all stores with an emphasis on environmental activism, in alignment with brand initiatives, and always locally relevant.

Store openings / Retail Operations

  • Support new store openings and store refits, coaching new teams to embody Patagonia’s culture and values. Team up with the wider retail team in real estate construction, marketing, recruitment, onboarding, store profiling and load ins.

  • Ensure execution of retail operations processes and policies in close coordination with the Retail Operations Team. Follow-up on training needs, collect feedback and search for operational improvements. Support further embedding of new ways of working and drive change management.


What we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of financial reporting and store operations

  • Possess strong initiative and leadership as well as effective communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with a variety of people

  • High level knowledge of EMEA market where stores are present, including co-tenancy, local environmental groups, relevant business partners, etc.

  • Commitment to proactively support environmental initiatives and all company policies in this area.

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, TEAMS, Outlook, PBI and cash register systems

  • Willingness to spend a certain amount of time in a retail store to support actual performance

  • Ability to carry out for extended periods of time computer work.

It's a plus if you have the following:

  • Experience as a District Manager across multiple stores/regions/countries

  • Fluent in German language is a plus.

  • Patagonia/Outdoor product use/knowledge.

Other important details:

  • This is a full time position, based in Amsterdam or Manchester

  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time. Visit each store at least quarterly.

  • If based in Manchester – one week per quarter spent in Amsterdam with EMEA retail office team.

  • We have a hybrid work model, working from home for maximum 3 (full-time roles) or 2 (part-time roles) days per week
