Retail Store Manager, Amsterdam (f/m/d)

Your role:

The Retail Store Manager leads daily store operations, drives commercial performance, fosters a purpose-driven, inclusive team culture, and actively builds strong connections within the local community. This role ensures exceptional customer experience by aligning people, processes, and business goals with Patagonia’s values. As a senior leader, the Store Manager also supports the onboarding of new managers, contributes to strategic projects, and pilots’ initiatives that shape the future of our retail experience.
Main tasks:
• Team Management: Managing a team of customer-facing employees by assigning responsibilities, coaching, giving feedback, monitoring performance, and encouraging teamwork and customer-first behaviour aligned with Patagonia values in daily operations.
• Commercial Execution: Drive seasonal sales targets by translating commercial strategy into in-store actions and managing KPIs through consistent execution. Identifie performance gaps, prioritize high-impact activities, and inspire the team to achieve commercial goals—always guided by Patagonia’s values and commitment to responsible business practices. Lead the operations of a high-volume store, ensuring commercial objectives and brand standards are consistently achieved while managing a significant turnover.
• Environmental Engagement & Community Impact: Leads the store’s community agenda in close collaboration with the Marketing and Enviro team. Champions Patagonia’s commitment to environmental responsibility by organizing and hosting community-focused events, driving local activism and fostering partnerships with grassroots NGOs. Strengthens relationships with local organizations and core sports community groups to amplify impact at the local level.
• Operational Oversight: Ensure the store runs smoothly by managing schedules and executing daily routines such as opening procedures and closing tasks in line with retail standards.
• Policy & Compliance: Uphold internal procedures, including cash handling, returns, and inventory oversight, while ensuring compliance with labour laws, fire regulations, and health & safety standards in areas such as scheduling, break management, and working hours. Identify compliance risks and promote proper behaviour through clear communication and accountability to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
• Budget Oversight: Manages the store’s capital expense budget, including payroll, supplies, and repair costs. Monitors spend against targets and adjust plans in collaboration with the District Manager to ensure fiscal responsibility.
• Merchandising & Brand Presentation: Collaborates with marketing and merchandising teams to plan and execute in-store campaigns, seasonal promotions, and product storytelling that drive sales and elevate the customer experience. Maintains high visual and merchandising standards that reflect the Patagonia's values.
What we’re looking for:
• An inclusive mindset
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in a customer-facing leadership role with experience in retail store management.
• Excellent team management skills are a must, with demonstrated ability to build effective teams, coach and motivate employees.
• Fluent in English. Professional fluency in Dutch is a plus
• Full understanding of commercial acumen and sales performance levers by translating targets into in-store actions using data and KPIs.
• Full expertise in making timely decisions under operational pressure to make timely decisions on customer issues, staffing adjustments, and task distribution within company guidelines to maintain workflow and a positive customer experience.
• Good understanding of local labour law awareness and compliance responsibilities.
• Full understanding of team management and communication skills to manage a store team through coaching, task ownership, performance discussions, and shared goal setting.
• Good understanding of conflict resolution to manage and de-escalate team or customer situations in a constructive, solution-oriented way.
• Good understanding of Budget Management to work within allocated store budgets and allocate resources in line with financial and seasonal goals.

Other important details:
• This is a Full-time position based in Amsterdam store
• The store is open 7 days per week. Number of scheduled hours per week varies. Must be available to work minimum of one weekend day, one opening shift and one closing shift throughout the week.
